While we try to address reader mail, it's not quite so easy. While we realize it's impossible for inmates to use the Internet, we'd like to encourage many family members or other readers to submit their requests and information on-line. It is much easier for us to work electronically. You can send any info to editor@pa-doc-monitor.org.

The system provides electronic forms that include instructions on how to submit a cover letter, provide all the necessary submission information, and then upload files for both the text and figures. Although we prefer that authors submit Adobe Acrobat files (to keep the text and figures in the exact form you want), our electronic-submission system accepts a wide variety of file types. You will receive a confirmation by e-mail that our system has received your manuscript. 350-018 If you begin the submission process but do not complete it, the partially completed forms will be saved for up to one week, so you will not have to begin the entire process from the very start. We will continue to require a signed submission form on paper, which can be sent after electronic submission. If you are invited to revise a manuscript, you can also submit your revisions electronically. 642-515 We place a high priority on making our manuscript-submission and review systems as rapid and painless as possible. The new online system will make us more efficient in handling more than 3600 full-length manuscripts each year and sending about two thirds of them to outside reviewers. As soon as an author completes the electronic-submission process, the manuscript and its accompanying information will be in our editorial-management system. A pdf version of the manuscript can immediately be generated in our office, and that pdf file can be sent rapidly and securely to editors and, if indicated, to outside reviewers. The pdf file of each manuscript will be stamped with a statement underlining our strict confidentiality requirements. About a third of the manuscripts we receive are declined after in-house review, and with these improvements in efficiency we can convey the decision to authors more quickly. 646-363 We would now prefer to receive manuscripts electronically. We have tried to make our electronic-submission process convenient and easy to use. The new procedure will save the time and expense required to ship a paper manuscript to us. For the foreseeable future, however, we will continue to accept manuscripts on paper.
